When you’ve played in a band for a few years, you’re bound to hear the words “Man, we’ve played that a 1,000 times!”

The fact of the matter is I doubt you have played that song a 1,000 times.  Here’s what it would take to play a song 1,000 times: you’d have to play the chosen song once a day for 2.5 years!

Here’s some perspective: Bob Dylan performed All Along The Watch Tower for the first time on Jan. 3rd 1974. By the end of 2003, he had performed the song roughly 1,398 times.

U2, a band that has toured the world for over 30 years, has played Pride (In The Name Of Love) roughly 795 times.

Pearl Jam first played Alive in Oct of 1990 and since then has performed it 589 times.

Since I created an Artist Data account in August of 2009 to post gigs,  Dirty Proper has played roughly 137 shows. The most performed Dirty Proper song is Here to Remind You.

People start hissing because they want to hear it.

In between songs, when it’s quiet, you’ll hear fans hiss because they want to hear Snake.

We had [...]]]> We play weddings and those type of parties. It’s weird as a original music band to be playing unhappy songs at a wedding reception. These people are celebrating their new life together and we’re singing songs about breakup, heartache, and shit that goes wrong.

We had a newlywed couple slow dancing to Loner as their first married dance. It’s really strange watching them begin their lives together by dancing to a breakup song.

I remember Sting always talking about Every Breath You Take and how people use it as their wedding song. That song is not about love and the song’s vibe always weirded him out.

It goes to show you how people interpret music differently and pull out their own meanings.

The bartender [...]]]> Prior to a recent gig, it looked like we were going to have no power. Storms pounded Nashville and the whole valley was blacked out. I got to the Music City Bar and Grill early for set up and text the band to let them know there was no power.

The bartender was convinced there’d be no power for the rest of the night. Within four minutes of his prognostication, the power returned. So, that was a weird beginning for what started as a slow evening.

Things picked up when a couple, who work at Opryland, joined us for their 3rd anniversary. They hang out at Music City a lot and have seen us quite a bit over the past year and a half. As you’ll see, they’ve become real Dirty Proper fans. After they had dinner, they came back to hang out and listen to our music.

At the end of the first set, the wife got up and asked to sing backup on Even After You’re Gone which is on the Here to Remind You album. She nailed the lyrics and it was really cool to hear another voice in the song.

During the 2nd set, she joined in on Brass In Pocket.

In the end, what began as a blackout night, evolved into a very cool 3rd anniversary celebration night with our fans.

We love playing the Brewhouse West because it drips with charisma. It’s a laid back roadhouse type joint and you’ll see [...]]]> This Friday night (4-22), you’re invited to join us, Dirty Proper, when we play the outdoor season opener on the Brewhouse West patio.

We love playing the Brewhouse West because it drips with charisma. It’s a laid back roadhouse type joint and you’ll see every type of person there, from bikers to button up types.

Another cool thing about Brewhouse is the great food. They don’t have a typical bar menu. There’s a varied menu which includes Tex-Mex, Cajun/Creole, and Jamaican jerk chicken. Another plus: 32 beers on draft.

There’s tons of free parking; you never have to worry about finding parking because they have a huge lot.

We’ll have a different bass player for this show. We’ll showcase our latest release, Just For Tonight, with a few new covers which includes songs by the Pretenders, Shelby Lynne, and Fleetwood Mac. We start at 9 p.m. and play until midnight.

Also, we’re going to give out some nice swag to first two people who approach Trey Call (he’s the lead guitar player) between sets and say, “Trey, I’m Here to Remind You”.

You’re going out on Friday night, yes? Great food, cold beer, and an evening on the patio with us. Oh, and did I mention there’s no cover charge? You can dance with a little more money in your pocket! See you there.

Often, magic happens when you get together with other musicians and explore your individual influences. A riff here, a melody there, stir in various influences, and soon you can hear something a little different or exciting.

People have asked me, “If you could jam with anybody, who would it be?” What a tough question to answer!

Since my favorite decade of music is the 70′s, in particular the mid 70′s, the choices get simpler. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t limit myself to 1 or 2. So, here’s 7 bands/artists I’d love to jam with (and listen/learn).

• Robert Plant – he does so well with duets and feeding off the other person he’s singing with. His harmonies with Patty Griffin are amazing.

• The Pretenders – It’s about a groove no one had then. They created their own sound. Chrissie Hynde wrote everything. She’s charismatic and writes really well.

• Supertramp – I am a freak about them. Their sound is so different. Our keyboard player grew up with the Supertramp sound. The keyboard and harmonica created a totally unique sound. I heard a rumor that Supertramp recorded in a home here in Nashville. I would have loved to been part of that.

• Joni Mitchell – I love her lyrics – she’s a prodigy. The Hissing of Summer Lawns is one of my favorites. Her albums are different, well written. I would be in awe of watching her craft. Her lyrics are incredible; each story is like a little book.

• The Rolling Stones – Talk about charisma. They define rock and roll. The rhythm of this band is incredible. I would love to rock anything on Exile on Main Street or the song, Miss You.

• The Eurythmics – Simple guitar playing with great riffs. I would love to harmonize with Annie Lennox. In fact, I often do with their recordings.

• Fleetwood Mac – I heard Rumors when I first got to college. Then, two days later, I bought everything by them. Great writers whose individual personalities shine through. I love Stevie’s mystical qualities and the qualities that brings to the music. I’d love to harmonize with Stevie on Stand Back or Dreams. Could you imagine having this band back up your vocals?
